Roman period, 2nd-3rd Century A.D.
'Iam vero etiam Harpocratem, statuasque Aegyptiorum numinum, in digitis viri quoque portare incipiunt', affirms Pliny the Elder (H.N., XXXIII.41), and thereby attests to the custom of wearing 'on the finger' engraved amulets and gems of the image of this Egyptian divinity that is Harpocrates, the child Horus, son of Isis and Osiris.
Venerated by the Ptolemies in Egypt, and in the Mediterranean world as a solar and cosmic god— he is represented in the form of a naked child, sitting or standing on a lotus flower, with a shaved head (with childhood sidelock), and with his index finger to his mouth.
This iconography refers to the Hermopolitan myth describing the birth of the Sun in a lotus chalice emerging from primordial chaos, and referred to the fertile life power of the Nile or the 'Urwasser' Lotus. The lotus being for the Egyptians the agent of the daily miraculous birth of the sun. Thus the syncretic nature of these Gnostic gems offers a reinterpretatio of the god Harpocrates, making him a protective god of human, animal and cosmic fertility.

The provision of your personal details is required to sell and deliver an art work to you and for us to collect payment. If you do not provide this information we will not be able to perform our contract or enter into our contract with you and you may also be in breach of contract. Section 9. Import and Export Regulations Regarding Tangible Property
The United Kingdom and most foreign countries regulate the importation and exportation of tangible property. Many countries require a declaration of export for property that is leaving the country. Section 10. General
If any part of the Terms of Use is held unlawful or unenforceable that part shall be struck out and the remaining terms shall remain in effect. We hereby exclude to the fullest extent permitted by law, any rights of third parties.

Notices are deemed delivered on delivery if by hand or the third day after posting, or if delivered by email, immediately upon transmission if transmitted during normal business hours in the country of the recipient, or otherwise on the following business day.
3. The Terms of Use and any non-contractual obligations arising from or in connection with it or its subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims), shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales and shall be subject to the non-exclusive courts of England and Wales.
