High carat gold ; natural pearls
Diam. 34 mm; total weight 14,30 gr. 
Circa 1870/80

In a shield-shaped formed of twisted wires and granulation technique. Set with 7 semi-precious hardstone intaglios (varia subjects) and 6 natural pearls. 
This brooch is a great example of the Archeological Revival trend in jewellery during the 19th century. Continental workshop. 
Beautiful condition.   

Attributed to Robert Phillips, who was born in 1810, co-founded with his brother Phillips Brothers in London at Cockspur St. Phillips was one of the first English Jewellers to make archaeological jewellery in the Italian style.
Jewelry of this period wasn’t just decorative; it was intellectual, romantic, and symbolic – a miniature tribute to the past, worn close to the heart.
